Dutch people have a game of Pole climbing!
Ok, so it really depends on what method your coach is using to teach you the vault. Some coaches teach to block out your left arm in order to achieve a bend but others, like my coach, teach to extend as tall as you can before the box and let your chest drive the pole forward. The bending of the pole comes with time as you extend your top arm fully and jump before your pole hits the end of the box (free take off). This will allow your body weight and force of the run to drive your chest in towards the pole which causes it to bend as you drive and swing upside down. As for your pole selection, it should be a great pole for you once your get some technique down!
Since you are new to pole vaulting, I would really just try and focus on two main things:
1. drive the pole by extending your hands above your head before the pole his the box
2. pushing through your left leg at the takeoff and driving your chest in
Good luck and I hope this helps!
It was 9-6! But I only got that once at the state meet! Before states my PR was only 8-3
Hi! My PR is 12’-1” and I started vaulting outdoor track season my freshman year about 2.5 years ago!
4 miles left. That’s 2 miles, twice. Okay. 8x800. 100 meters, 64 times.
